A great place for hiking, kayaking, and family fun. Middle Georgia's only handicap-usable playground, canoe launch, and Porter Pavilion. Amerson Water Works Park is the former site of the Macon Water Works which served the city for over 100 years.
The area was deemed irreparable after flooding in 2004. The city’s water treatment facilities were moved to another location. Open Wednesdays through Sundays from 9am-7pm, visitors can enjoy the handicap-usable playground, picnic pavilion, canoe launch, pond fishing, and hiking on primitive trails. With a $5 million federal grant, NewTown Macon, a community organization, will began construction in 2013 to add eight miles of trails, additional pavilions, a public boat launch, and other amenities.
