Olympic Legacy, Granite Wonder

Kick off your visit to Conyers at the Conyers Welcome Center & Train Depot!

While exploring Historic Olde Town Conyers, don’t miss the Olde Town Pavilion, where you might stumble upon a happening event. Plus, consider hosting your own event there – the pavilion is available for rental.

Trails are all around and waiting for you to explore! Get outside and visit the Georgia International Horse Park. It is a special place as it is the home of the first ever Olympic Mountain Bike Trail and was the host venue for equestrian competitions, mountain bike and portions of the modern pentathlon during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Here you can ride the trails, picnic, play golf, hike, canoe, and more!

Another great place for a walk or bike ride is the 3.5-mile Olde Town Conyers Trail. It is a paved multi-purpose greenway trail between the Olde Town Conyers Commercial District and Johnson Park, with parking/access points at Pine Log Park, Johnson Park, and Downtown Conyers.

Panola Mountain State Park is a recreational haven for all ages and interests. Here you will find offerings such as archery, geocaching, orienteering, birding, and tree-climbing programs. There are paved trails allowing biking, roller blading, jogging, and dog walking as well as forested trails for hiking and running.

The tranquil Monastery of the Holy Spirit, a Trappist monastic institute wholly ordered to contemplation, welcomes visitors to enjoy the peacefulness of the grounds. The monastery is also a key gateway into the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area, one of 49 national heritage areas in the U.S. Within the national heritage area, families can stroll the Rockdale River Trail from the monastery to the 500-foot bridge that spans the South River.

Other activities within the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area include a hike up Arabia Mountain, an exposed granite monadnock surrounded by wetlands, pine and oak forests, multiple streams and two lakes. Rare, native plant species, such as the signature red diamorpha in the winter and fall’s yellow daisies, make it seem as though the rock is in constant metamorphosis. Visitors can also tour the AWARE wildlife rehabilitation facilities, stroll the soft trails at Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve or along the paved PATH trail.

On the first Saturday of each month, explore the history at the Old Jail Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is an ideal destination for people of all ages to explore and discover the rich history of Conyers and Rockdale County, and best of all, admission is free.
