Sports is the Name of the Game in Warner Robins

Between Warner Robins, Georgia’s 12 neighborhood parks with playgrounds and picnic areas, there are no excuses for not getting outside to enjoy the sunshine. A master plan is guiding the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and has already included improvements to the football complex at Jessie E. Tanner Jr. Park and the Deloris Toliver Park and Pavilion.

Projects to be completed by the end of 2020 include the Walk at Sandy Run, Memorial Park and Pavilion and the immense North Houston complex, which will feature four gymnasiums, a walking track, four baseball fields, and space for a senior citizens facility.

Wellston Park, a dream 20 years in the making, is now well established thanks to strong community spirit and involvement. The 37-acre park began with a three-acre open lawn area and gathering gazebo, 1.5-mile paved walking trail that runs along the perimeter of the park, large and small dog parks, and the Coleman Cottage, which is one of the oldest houses in the Robins Region.

Connecting Corder Road to Fountain Park in Warner Robins is the paved, wooded, one-mile Wellston Trail. At the Corder Road entrance is some outdoor fitness equipment along with plenty of parking. A little way down the trail are picnic tables, grills, and a park restroom. Fountain Park at the other end of the trail has picnic tables, pavilions, basketball and tennis courts, and a playground.

Recreation and sports are a natural fit in Warner Robins, which has been home to Little League® Baseball and Softball Southeast Region headquarters since 2009. The entire Warner Robins community has embraced the culture of Little League Baseball and Softball and continues to show tremendous support for not only the regional summer tournaments, but for all the efforts provided by the regional staff to local leagues throughout the region.

Little League Southeast Park, home of the Little League Baseball® and Little League Softball® Southeast Region summer tournaments, has seen a multitude of talented athletes, dedicated volunteers, and cheering families fill the stadium to support of the game of baseball and softball. The location has seen a lot of success on the field. The hometown Warner Robins American Little League went on from the regional tournament to win back-to-back Little League Softball World Series (LLSWS) Championships in 2009 and 2010. Also in the region, Rowan Little League out of Salisbury, N.C., advanced from the 2015 Regional Championship to win the LLSWS title as well. The Southeast Region has seen three of its teams make it deep into the Little League Baseball World Series tournaments, with three teams making it to the U.S. Semifinals game in the last decade, including the most recent run by Peachtree City (Ga.) American Little League in 2018.

Another of Warner Robins’ strengths, outdoors-wise, are the golf courses in the area. The Warner Robins golf community features area courses nationally recognized for golf tours seen on The Golf Channel, and others rated by renowned magazines as the best in the country.

The City-owned International City Golf Club is a public tournament and practice course. The 18-hole course provides a practice facility, pro shop, club repair services and lessons by the PGA golf professional. The semi-private Southern Landings Golf Club is also in Warner Robins and is known as one of the finest 18 holes of golf in the state.
