Young Harris: Home of Brasstown Bald, Brasstown Valley, and Beautiful Lake Chatuge

The Young Harris and Hiawassee area in the Northeast Georgia Mountains offers championship golf, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, tennis, and water sports, as well as arts, crafts, antiquing, concerts, fairs and festivals.

The people of Young Harris and nearby Hiawassee (the seat of Towns County) live in the luxurious folds of waterfalls, mountain peaks, trails across valleys and into and out of forests, viticulture and mountain arts and music.

The Stables at Brasstown Valley Resort offers horseback trail experiences to the public – staying overnight is not a requirement. An expert equestrian takes small groups or single riders on guided one- and two-hour trail rides. Little ones can ride in the stables on guided horseback rides.

There are nine miles of interpretive hiking trails on Miller Trek, a year-round hiking trail system at Brasstown Valley Resort. You can strive for the entire nine-mile loop or take the shortcut (green blaze) for a 2.5-mile hike or 6.5-mile (orange blaze) loop. Will you see a red or gray fox in the early morning? Wildflowers in spring, and deer and birds all year can be admired.

Want an easy hike with waterfalls? Visit Cupid Falls on the campus of Young Harris College. From the parking lot it’s a short walk on a level, accessible pathway. Relax in the wooden chair swing by the falls. It’s a great way to enjoy the simpler things in life, reflecting on the moving water going somewhere, just like you.

Young Harris College is a four-year school in the heart of town. The Rollins Planetarium on campus is a Friday night hot spot. Get ready to see the stars as if you are millions of miles closer. Live presenters use the planetarium’s digital and optical star projectors to explore the heavens. Depending on the show, you’ll learn about the planets, stars far away and stars over Georgia, the sun, moon, constellations, and their fascinating stories.

Georgia’s Agritourism Highway signs will lead you to several wineries and farms here on the forested mountain roads. Make time to visit Crane Creek Vineyards in countryside Young Harris. By reservation, you can join a weekly Vintner’s Tour – the ultimate behind-the-scenes experience! The tour of their award-winning winery is followed by a tractor hayride through the vineyard, concluding at the Tasting Room.

In Young Harris, each June, the Made in Georgia Festival showcases artisans who grow, pickle, craft, stitch, design, and more with demonstrations and classes to add to the weekend experience.

Being outside in Young Harris and all of Towns County means taking lots of stunning photos – enjoy!
