The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has partnered with the Aimee Copeland Foundation to provide free, high mobility all-terrain wheelchairs at 10 state parks, historic sites and a wildlife center. The chairs can be used for hiking, hunting, fishing and other outdoor education and recreational activities.

East of the Visitor Center is a winding trail that runs through the woods along a railroad bridge that was built in 1874 and is on the National Historic Register. The trail is name for William Bartram, a well-known naturalist who frequented the area around 1775.

Looking to bird watch? Head southeast from the Trading Post toward the Opelofa Loop, which is known for sightings of egrets, osprey, herrings, and anhinga. Opelofa is Creek for “like a swamp.” Part of the Loop runs over the Walnut Creek wetlands and another portion borders Walnut Creek.

Beginning at the Visitor Center, this trail is a bike trail. It goes to the Clinton Street foot gate – open 9 am to 5pm daily. The trail goes along the Ocmulgee River and this portion is wheelchair accessible. Cyclists may encounter wildlife such as dear, woodpeckers, and lizards.
